This painting went through a few different stages; I started it as a plein air painting, attempting a sunset painting, but I made a few miscalculations. The canvas was larger than I'd ever used for a plein air subject before, meaning it took longer to cover the area, and I left in the kayak later than I had planned to, meaning I didn't properly start until the sun was already quite close to going down. I had an interesting window of time while there, as the cooling temperature and humidity meant my paints weren't drying very fast, and behaved more like oils.... but it quickly got too dark to see what I was doing, and the bugs started getting really aggressive, so I packed it in quickly. The resulting painting had some nice colours, but it didn't feel finished to me... so a year later I went back to the spot, during daytime this time, and essentially repainted the whole thing for a different time of day. As a result it has a lot of texture, compared to my usual. I'm fond of it, though. 14x18", $300
